Here’s another recent unexpected find, a superb classic dining restaurant located in Rancho Mirage just outside of Palm Springs, Lord Fletcher’s Inn! While updating my classic dining slide show I decided to check out an establishment that I’d driven past a hundred times but never stopped. Photographer Sven A. Kirsten took these photos that capture its spirit.
- Lord Fletcher’s Inn Rancho Mirage
This upscale fine dining restaurant opened in 1966 at 70385 Highway 111. Still under original ownership, the congenial second generation restaurateur Michael Fletcher manages Lord Fletcher’s today. The beautifully maintained Olde English atmosphere is just right. And there are strong, generous cocktails by top notch bartenders.
Talk about old school, their website’s been down for at least two years and they don’t have email. And, like the old days, they’re also closed during the hot summer months of August and September.
Frank Sinatra lived just down the street and the portrait of him hangs above his favorite table.
Terrific service, great food. In addition to prime rib, Yorkshire pudding and other typical English fare, there is always fresh fish on the menu and a fine soup du jour. Most excitingly, their house salad with palace dressing prepared tableside is a close relative of my favorite Caesar Salad in texture and flavor. After dinner, you have to try Lord Fletcher’s signature Royal Brandy Ice concoction served in a frosty glass. Wow!
My advice is go to Lord Fletcher’s the next time you’re in the Coachella Valley. Because the average age appears to be well past 70, it’s critical that a new, younger generation patronize this restaurant before, well, you know.
I was curious about this place when I passed it on 111 last week. Will definitely have to check it out next time I’m out there…it looks epic.
